Air Deccan is a Bangalore-based privately-owned airline and the fastest growing aviation company of the India. It was only on August 2003, that Air Deccan started its operation in India as a child and before completion of even four years of service it has become the most popular name in the aviation industry for one reason-low price of air tickets. People of India cannot think of any other names before Air Deccan when they think about low-cost airlines in India. It may be said Air Deccan has changed the definition of low cost airlines in India.
Air Deccan is the first low-cost airline in the country and its main hub is at HAL Bangalore International Airport and another hub is at Chennai International Airport. For the last four years Air Deccan has enjoyed a huge growth and is till growing rapidly. At present Air Deccan has a busy operation in all parts of India and due to low price of tickets, it is the highest revenue earner among its contemporary companies. In fact it is the huge growth of Air Deccan that inspired the entry of several low cost airlines in India. At present Air Deccan has a stiff competition with relatively new low-cost airlines like SpiceJet, Indigo and GoAir. And not only low cost airlines, but Air Deccan has also forced the major domestic airlines like Indian, Jet Airways, Kingfisher Airlines and Air Sahara. to decrease the price of tickets. However, beside low cost of tickets Air Deccan has got some defects also and the biggest of them all is frequent delay and cancellation of flights. Recently Air Deccan has suffered a loss due to this lack of professionalism as some percentage of the customers have shifted towards other low-cost airlines.
Like all other parts of India Air Deccan has its regular service from different parts of Kerala also. Air Deccan started its operation in Kochi or Cochin on September 26, 2005 with an inaugural flight from Cochin International Airport to Bangalore. The managing director of Air Deccan, Captain GR Gopinath was present at the inaugural flight. After that Air Deccan has expanded its operation network in Kerala and now operates regular flights from Kochi to Bangalore, Kochi to Mumbai, Kochi to Chennai, Kochi to Coimbatore, Kochi to Hyderabad and Kochi to Thiruvananthapuram. Large number of people staying in Cochin nowadays avail Air Deccan flights to reach these destinations and it is expected that the company would expand its network further in Kerala and other parts of South India.
