SilkAir started its operation as Tradewinds Airlines on February, 1989 and at that time its used to operate flights in six destinations only-Bandar Seri Begawan, Pattaya, Phuket, Hat Yai and Kuantan from Changi Airport and and Selatar Airport in Singapore. At present SilkAir operates its scheduled passenger flights to 25 cites in Southeast Asia, South Asia and China. SilkAir, which is also the regional wing of Singapore Airlines serves 25 of the total 49 destinations of Singapore Airlines' network. SilkAir expanded its operation to India and china in the mid-90s after it started using two Airbus A310 aircraft. Within a few years of operation, SilkAir became the first Asian airline to provide facility of portable video-on-demand to its passengers. In fact the entertainment facility provided by SilkAir to its passengers is one of its important features. For it hospitality and regularity in service, SilkAir has now become one of the major Asian airlines and earns a huge revenue from its daily operation in different parts of Asia.
